Playable Races
MUME offers eight playable races split between the Free Peoples and the forces of Sauron.
Free Peoples (White Side)

| Elf | High mana regen, disease immunity, snow movement, slow aging |
| Dwarf | High constitution, resistance to magic, expert smithing |
| Hobbit | Small size, high dexterity, stealth bonuses |
| Man | Balanced stats, most class options, fastest levelling |
| Beorning | Can transform into a bear, strong unarmed combat |
Dark Side

| Orc | Night vision, strong combat, aggressive bonuses in darkness |
| Troll | Immense strength, unarmed combat, cave regeneration |
| Black Númenórean | Cunning, magic, camping ability — high skill ceiling |
